Types of Skin Growths Removed

Sebaceous Cysts

Description: benign growths under the skin that can get blocked with secretions leading to secondary infection and pain.

Treatment: Surgical excision to remove the entire cyst and prevent recurrence.

Warts

Description: Viral infections causing rough, raised growths on the skin- commonly over hands and feet in children, beard areas and scalp in adults. They are contagious and hence need to be treated at the earliest.

Treatment: Various methods include cauterisation, cryotherapy (freezing), or immunotherapy injections- depending on the location and number of warts.

Moles

Description: They are benign pigmented spots on the skin that can be raised or flat. However if a mole is suddenly growing in size, having an irregular surface or border, or variegate color it must be excised to check for malignancy.

Treatment: Surgical excision is done  if a mole shows signs suspicious of malignancy  or even for cosmetic reasons.

Lipomas

Description: Benign fatty tumors that feel soft and moveable under the skin.

Treatment: Surgical removal (excision) for cosmetic reasons or if the lipoma causes discomfort or grows large.

Skin Tags

Description: Small, benign growths that often appear on areas of friction, such as the neck, armpits, or groin.

Treatment: Surgical excision for cosmetic reasons or if the skin tag is irritated or catches on clothing.

The Excision Process

Consultation: Dr. Swathi will examine the skin growth, discuss treatment options, and ensure you understand the procedure.

Preparation: The treatment area will be cleansed, and local/ topical anesthesia will be administered to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Excision: Using surgical techniques/ cautery, Dr. Swathi will carefully remove the skin growth while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues.

Closure and Aftercare: The wound may be closed with stitches or left to heal naturally, depending on the size and location of the excision. Aftercare instructions will be provided to promote healing and minimize scarring.

What to Expect

During the Procedure: Local anesthesia ensures minimal discomfort during the excision process. The duration depends on the size and complexity of the skin growth.

Recovery: Most patients can resume normal activities shortly after the procedure. Mild soreness or discomfort and temporary redness or swelling at the site are common and typically resolve within a few days.

Results: Removal of the skin growth with minimal scarring. Dr. Swathi will monitor your healing progress to ensure optimal outcomes.
